Boxing/Breeder's Cup |
Message

Peter sunk like a submarine. Yikes!!!! Okay, I am taking a
break next week from the martial arts and boxing world to concentrate on
another of my favorite sports; horseracing. The 'Breeder's Cup' is at
Santa Anita next weekend. What a blast, Too bad that Big Brown was hurt
during training this week. The showdown in the big Classic will now be
Curlin versus undefeated Casino Royale and the rest of the world. Enjoy
and Have A Happy
p.s. Steven Arredondo's huge benefit to raise
money for children with spinal bifida and other delibitating diseases is
off for October 30 but on again for around December 12. Many MMA, boxing
stars, writers, artists, and even a movie star or two are expected at the
Sharks Club in Costa Mesa, California. Cliff and I are also invited
guests. Come by and get an autograph and contribute a buck or two for the
children.

About David

Message
 |
The kid I trained for 10 years, David Rodriquez, won the
WBC Mexican Heavyweight Boxing Championshop this past Saturday via a 1st
round Ko over a guy named Samples. That was the good news. The bad news is
that David was to fight a more formidable opponent, Robert Davis, who
pulled out. David is 29-0 with 28 KO's. Even Davis, who might have
presented enough tools to make it a good fight has been out of the game
since 2005. Much to my chagrin, David is still not fighting the type of
competition to grow in the sport and suddenly, all- at-once get cocky, go
up against a top-ten fighter and get destroyed, shot down like with a
bazooka. I hope he can begin to step up the competition against a little
better opponent each outing and be ready to reach his goals before age
34.He is 31 now and though he is so good-looking as to KO more beautiful
women in any part of the world than Casanova,he will not continue to KO
better fighters easily without being prepared to go the distance and being
of a mindset through sparring and training to endure the battles all the
way. That takes some tough mental preparedness as well as a rough and
ready training regimen militarily run in scope and purpose. I sure hope he
can do it or get in the movies; one or the other. HAve a Happy

Say folks, check out <convictedartist.com> when you
get the opportunity. I will be doing a few articles for boxing and
kickboxing on the site from time-to-time. A great El Pasoan now living in
Los Angeles, Steve Arredondo owns and manages the site. And I may have
more exciting news about that soon.

JUST GO TO THE BOXING VENUE

Shoulda never run. Dutrow was too damned greedy. Kent
Desormeaux was an Angel in this race. I can't think of another jockey who
thought so much of his mount that he would pull up instead of going to the

in this nasty world.

I also like horseracing. Big Brown might be a phenomena of
a horse. He kicked in at the top of the stretch in the Preakness today and
left the field in his wake. In 3 weeks we will find out if he can win the
Triple Crown with a victory in the Belmont Stakes. That accomplishment
hasn't happened since Affirmed did it 30 years ago. It takes a near freak
of a horse to win the Triple Crown. And Big Brown could do it if his
quarter cracks in his front feet don't hamper him. It is kind of sad
to see a super horse like Big Brown have that ailment. No doubt, the only
way he will get beat will be due to his own health issues. I will be
ecstatic should he do it. I don't have another 30 years to see a 3-C
winner. Go Big Brown to the rugged yet champion maker Belmont Stakes (mile
and a half switch) in New York. I hope your feet can take a mile and a
half; a grueling event for any horse that has already run in the first two
Triple Crown races, much less won them. Sincere congrats to the
resurgence of jockey Kent Desormeaux since he decided to move his tack
back to Maryland after much success in California but not too much success
in maintaining rides with certain trainers and owners; trainers who just
don't get it sometimes when they have a downswing from winning and whining
owners who are never satisfied. There are pitfalls and slumps in nearly
every sports endeavor and especially with trainers, horses and jockeys.
And yes, I am aware that big money owners are mostly at fault. It is
disgusting that they feel justified by playing games with dedicated people
in the Sport Of Kings and the wonderful, exciting, talented
thoroughbreds.

million dollar hit and it is now played more than when he was alive.Cults
have even picked it up as an anthem. He was killed in Los Angeles,
reputedly by the Mafia, for not signing with them when he was only 21 or

Children and teen book. L.B. McKay will also have a knockout website
coming in June or July. Look for it then. A deal I had with cancerpro.com

However, it may still come off as well this summer.

The weather turned in our favor yesterday and we had a
nice drive to and from Carlsbad. We had a good time at the "Mayor's Cup"
karate event and met some wonderful people. Cliff signed authographs
galore, we made a nice profit, and the Mayor bought the first book. And
that brings up the subject of handling money. Hee! Haw! The Mayor gave me
a hundred dollar bill and I never looked at it and thought it was a 20
dollar bill. I had sent him over to Cliff (Who was on the mike with the
director) to get his book signed by the champ. A while later we were
chatting and he said, "Where is my change?" I was stunned for a moment and
after he told me he gave me a 100 bill, I checked my wallet and sure nuff,
it was his 100. Anyway, he said I was really good and he might call me for
use in is next campaign. Of course that was moot because I asked him how
many years he had been mayor and he replied "sixteen." Surely, he doesn't
want my help. Ha! Our next event is April 26 is the Raymond Telles
Academy. Next up it is the downtown El Paso Library on May 10 starting at
10 A.M. and open till 4:30 P.M. Join us if you can...and you can if you
want a piece of the legacy. And don't forget, the emerging artist, L.B.
McKay. She will join us at the library. Come buy one of her paintings.
Trust me (Oops), the art will be worth tens of times more in just a few
short years. L.B. McKay is going to be somebody in the art world, mark my

Good News, Cliff and I have three book signings coming up.
If you are in any of the areas where we will be, come and enjoy the show
(Yes we do Demo's). And Cliff will give an action-packed 10 minute talk
about his most amazing career. Next, we will sell books and Cliff will
sign them and if you want my John Henry, I will gladly give it. We will
be at a major martial arts tournament all day in Carlsbad , New Mexico on
April the 18th. Back in El Paso on April 25,12:15 P.M., we are the special
guests at The Raymond Telles Academy for a big barbecue, demo's and book
signing. Next, we will be at the El Paso Public Library all day for the
mixed art and bookwriters combined show on May 10th. L.B. McKay, my
wife, will also have some new work to present at the Library. Her present
exhibition at the Galeria de la Mision de Senecu, the showcase of the
Ysleta Independent School District, is ongoing through April 25 and it has
been a huge success. She has sold paintings and received rave reviews.
Indeed, she is an emerging artist. One of L.B. McKay's works,'The

Incredible! If you missed the exhibition at The Mision de
La Senecu (YISD) Woman's Month Art Exhibition, you missed out on the work
of L.B. McKay a senior art major at UTEP an defintely and emerging artist.
Kudos from former County Judge Alicia Chacon as the keynote speaker and
high praise from hall of fame Impresionist Alberto Escamilla was extremely
encouraging. The fellowship was just superb and the art could have easily
been labeled, "Surround Sound Of Art Images." Many guests cried and yet
did another tour and cried again. Some said that they cried as the work
touched deep emotions but that it was not a negative response but rather
positive for some, even some catharsis. for more inormation and with
the exhibition continuing until April 24, I will later post ways in which
you can have a private showing.

About an hour ago, I received a phone call from Benny
Benavides, our Pan Am Jiu Jitsu gold medalist and coach at El Paso
Jiu-Jitsu that our beloved leader, James Butler, suffered a seizure
outside the gym and died. I am heartbroken and saddened. We all loved
James and he was the backbone of the schools success. James had called me
about 45 minutes before his demise in an excited moment to tell me about
15 more people signing up due to our great victories over the past
weekend. He was pumped. Unfortunately, he had a brain tumor and was to be
operated on in Houston next Wednesday. He seemed fine yesterday when I was
at the gym and we had over 20 students in my striking and boxing class.
His meds were keeping him in check until the operation. I am just numb
right now as James gave me a chance at my old age and full of cancer to
work with him and help develop our members. This is just devastating
news. I am trying to stop the tears by writing. Damn, James was not even
forty. I don't have a clue as to how things will go the next few weeks. I
have my own scheduled medical procedures coming up. James was one of
the greatest people I have ever had the pleasure of knowing and becoming
close friends with. I can actually say I loved him deeply. I am going to
miss him immensely. Life can be so strange and cruel. James had a wife and
three young children. What a sad loss for all of us and the community. He
was a winner, a friend, a man, a champion, a father, and a proud human
being. His daytime profession was teaching handicapped and retarded
children. He was a master in the classroom and at the dojo.We are going to
miss him so deeply. I believe Benny may have the wherewithall and inner st
rength to possibly keep the dream that James started on its course. I sure
hope so. We will miss you brother James. May you somehow be at
peace.

More good news. Our fighter, Beto for now, fought his
first cage fight this past weekend against an experienced fighter from out
of state at Speaking Rock Casino. Beto dominated the experienced fighter
and won easily. He could have knocked the opponent out but that was
strictly due to inexperience and playing it a little safe. Congrats
Beto. Have a Happy |

Limited Edition |
Message
 |
Magic Thomas fans,
After out last book signing, we
have very few books left. This book is a limited edition and we may or may
not obtain more books. We need a sponsor to gain more world-wide sales.
Got one? Anyway, we are down to less than a hundred books and will be sold
out by our next two or three book signings. Therefore,if you want the book,
"Magic! Magic! Magic!" about the magnificent and charismatic kickboxer,
Cliff 'Magic' Thomas, the greatest athlete in known history to overcome
such a disastrous medical condition and yet become a world champion seven
times over, make your play now. As Kenny Rogers in 'The Gambler' said,
"You gotta know when to hold them and know when to fold them."
This book is historical and will become a collector's item in a few
years. You can bet on it. I wrote some local hall of fame booklets years
ago that originally sold for $10.00 amd they now sell for $100.00. Have

12 rounds of kickboxing was one hell of an art. Those are championship
rounds that take tremendous boxing and karate training to accomplish at a

George, I have film of that event. Man, it has to be a
first in history. Ishmael open-handedly slaps Cliff viciously after the
ref's instructions and they are returning to the corner. Cliff spanks him
with a hard jab. Ishmael immediately retaliates with a strong right and
Cliff just as quickly unleashes a bomb of a left and Ismael staggers back
3 spaces before crumbling to the floor. When atendants try to help him up,
he waves them off, gets up and thinking he is okay takes about a step and
a half and then reels backwards again and falls on his keester. He is
finally helped out of the ring. However, Cliff has no one in the ring to
take off his robe. He shakes it loose after a few attempts and that is
when the bell rang for round one. In the fourth, Cliff nails Garduno
with a left to the kidney that also causes the fighter to first just step
back and then the impact hit him and he crumpled to the floor grimacing in
pain and unable to get up. What we had was a double knockout: One of
the trainer and one of the opponent, all in the same fight. Ever hear of
such a thing (not staged like wrestling)?

In Cliff's fight with Joe Garduno - why did
Ishmael Robles slap Cliff before the fight ? Was it just to try to hype
Cliff up ? I've seen lots of trainers slap their fighter before a fight,

Sharon, Perry only got 39% of the vote. He won because
there is no run-off, winner take all. He was helped by Strayhorn. That
B----h is the mother of u-no-who, McClelland (Repugnant Party), Bush's
mouthpiece before the Tony Snowjob show. It was a Karl Rove thing and
bound to work in Texas, the state of 'Fool me once, okay' 'Fool me twice',
okay, 'Fool me thrice? Why not?' Clones follow the rhetoric and the
schemes like sheep to slaughter. Just check out Rush Dopehead Limburger's
audience. They haven't a clue to how certain genes are stimulated to give
them the euphoria they misinterpret and haven't a clue what to do about
it. Even the Texas Gerrymandering hardly raised an eyebrow. But give them
stimulation to equate with orgasms and their soul belongs to the
messenger.
Old Karl was once a high school and college debater of
the first order. In one major contest, he and his partner skunked the
opposing team by showing up with a cart loaded with 10 full shoeboxes of
supposedly their research and evidence for their position. The other team
had only one shoebox and index cards and when Rove's team plunked down
their material on a big desk and ready to compete, the other team was
deflated just by the massive material they were going to have to go up
against. It was trickery though. Evil-eyed Rove (Even at that age), had
nothing at all in nine of the shoeb boxes. It was all a scam to intimidate
the other team. He and his partner won easily. Even Oprah winfrey was a
great debater in school. So was Brad Pitt and John F. Kennedy and Lyndon
Baines Johnson to name a few. Hitler had his own oratorical grooming as
well as did Mussolini. Strange how we seem to follow some of these weird
folk, but maybe it is in the genes. Hahaha! Have a Happy...and
hopefully, Hank will put up some photo's.

Okay folks, get out and vote. Remember, you get the kind
of government you elect...We'll, unless the Diebolds are fixed or you are
somehow jinxed by the dirty methods we have seen of late. It is hard to
believe that you can't trust your vote to count in America. What in holy
crap has gone on? How did we get to this point? Even Mexico has a paper
trail. I think we have been had. I go to bet on a horse and a top-notch
machine gives me my ticket. I have a receipt. I go to the ATM and I get a
receipt. No big deal. Maybe one in a million transactions has an error. I
go to the grocery store or to the mall for some shorts and socks and I get
a receipt. Yet, we can't get proof of who we voted for. what a calamity
for a nation that calls other nations elections fradulent. Who is calling
the kettle 'Black?' Nevertheless, get out and vote and perhaps someday
we will rectify this ghastly situation. Still, it is hard to believe that
Democrats and Republicans alike wouldn't want fair elections. And you know
who owns the Diebold machines, don't you? Have a Happy...No more 'Get
out the Vote' until the next prez election. Back to

Breeder's Cup Day |
Message
 |
Rats, Lava Man just can't run outside California. The darn
UAE and their billions for horses, won first an second in the Breeder's
Classic. Invasor did upset Bernardini by a length. Jock moved way too soon
on Bernardini. He will get the axe most likely. Invasor won and he was
born in Argentina but raced in Paraguay. The Arab Emirates just waltzed in
to Paraguay and laid a few million on the table and that was that. He had
lost only once in nine starts but seemed about a 3rd or 4th place finisher
against this talent. The new polytrack at Churchill Downs and even at
other tracks is presenting a serious bias.Though it is supposed to be
safer, two favorites in one race went down. One had to be destroyed. And
then, horses from the rail and close in seem to have a distinct advantage,
especially in races shorter than a mile and a quarter. Out of eight races,
the number one hole won four times. Anyway, Lava Man is still the
greatest claim of all time. He was claimed for 50,000 bucks just two years
ago at a small track. He has cheap bloodlines. Yet he is the only horse in
History to sweep all the three great California Grade 1,s at different
tracks, Santa anita, Hollywood Park, and Del Mar. He had won seven
straight stakes prior to the Cup. Get this! The horse has won nearly 3
million dollars. What a claim, eh? Good news! Thors Echo, who won the
Sunland Park 500 Grand two years ago and didn't win at all for over a
year, blew by the big names in the BC Sprint and won by nearly four
lengths. He has been a troubled horse as far as injuries are concerned but
this time he was sound and he soundly kicked butt. Have A

Jennifer Han, El Paso's world-wide known amateur boxer,
kickboxer and karate champion, won her third National Golden Gloves title
at 125 pounds in Florida, finishing up last Saturday. What a
woman. Even though she had surgery for a bad shoulder and rotator cuff.
Jennifer managed to beat the best in the USA. She now has six national
titles and had it not been for the bad shoulder, she might have ten. Her
younger sister took the Junior Nationals and another sister was beaten 3-2
on a hotly disputed decision. Congrats to all the Hans. they have
helped keep El Paso boxing on the world map. El Paso Heavyweight, David
Rodriguez also won Saturday. He is now 23-0 as a professional. He won by
first round knockout over a substitute. Too bad. He was supposed to fight
another undefeated fighter. Boxing has some strange bedfellows. David is
getting slightly better opponents but it would have been a real test to
see how he would have done against another undefeated fighter. More time
for that. I started David off as a seven year old boy and after ten
years I saw that old axiom we all know about in the game come into play.
But, I know what I did for the kid. He now needs to dedicate to a really
tough training regimen or soon have to leave the game...a game that gets
rough and tumble from here on out, Have A Happy |

Did you know I was a sportswriter for the now defunct El

were NO women sports writers.
I saw Ray for the first time since I

movie...everyone must go and see it!!) Anyhow, it got me thinking about
how Ray gave a woman a chance to write about sports in the late 70s. I
would love to get in touch with him, so let me know if you have a number

I'll check out the El Paso Times. It's a shame El

Sharon, His name is G e A. Bochetto. I found an e-mail for
him at his website and gave it a try. I doubt that it will be answered as
they are nusually screened by someone else. If it ain't a client, deny
it. Do you have contact with Toby Keith? We saw him in Ruidoso, New
Mexico a few years back. Nice act and he has a strong stage presence. And
of course, he has more hooks than there are some species of fish in the
seas. We recently saw 'Air Supply.' what a knockout of a concert. Up
close and personal too. Russell still has that amazing voice. Not even a
hint of a crack in it. Geez, it was good. I did see Elvis three times.
He was my and many others, savior from anized religion and the so-called
righteous ways of our societal big-whigs and politicians, one might say
(How many of those jokers are molesters and abusers?). Yes, he was
religious but his music (although much from R&B Black Musicians)was a
Freedom from the quaint and psychotic types of phonies who run religion
with 'Fear' and from the Crooners, who were So-so but didn't make my feet
move and my heart jump; and from Christian'Fundamentalism, which in my
opinion, is just like the Taliban religion and that of other Arab states.
There isn't much difference in any of them. Sure as 'Shootin,' they all
try to impose their will and frightening mores on the populace. And they
do it too for mucha $$$$$$$$$. I love Kenny Chesney's work too and
havbe bought nearly all his albums. My wife and I saw Garth Brooks twice.
What a thrill those concerts were. I even camped out in a tent to get into
the first show and I was 59 years old then, back in 1993. We have seen
'Aerosmith' too and I doubt if in my lifetime that I will ever have a
greater sensational experience than that night two years ago. We saw Keith
Urban at his first ever 'Grand Old Opry' show and I predicted to my wife
then and there that he would b e another great one just as I predicted in
the eighties that Garth would b e a 'Superstar,' I followed suit in
predicting same for Keith. I bet Tom Cruise isn't in such 'Hog Heaven'
now that Keith took his last lady. Tom was really making an 'Ass' out of
himself all over tv and the world about his new love. Like a little boy
getting his first toy and beleiving no one else has one, is entirely too
much for someone supposedly of good mind and character. Now, it is payback.
Hahaha! Besides, my wife and every woman I know, would leave home or
whatever to be Keith's woman over Tom's. And damn, that man makes some
terrific music. Melts the women like butter and makes men
melancholy. Rocio Durcal, who recently died, is another all-time great.
Her perfection in voice, moves, song themes, and professionalism was
hardly ever matched by anyone else.We saw her three times and oh my
goodness, how magnificent those concerts were. I am saddened by her early
departure. Eddy Raven is another of my all-time favorites. That
Louisiana special brand of sound he created is infectious. And who doesn't
want to dance when he plays and sings. He was a real heart throb when he
was younger. Still has broad shoulders and makes the ladies
swoon-including my wife. I have seen him more than any artist; some twenty
three times. I loved Eddie Rabbitt's music and saw him twice. Same with
Merle Haggard...when he isn't drunk. Hank Jr. gave good shows as a
teenager and then got sloppy? Booze? Alan Jackson wasn't much good in
concert and G e Strait was just that: too straight. Dolly Parton is and
always has been great. Gosh, I'll have to make a list of the some 100 plus
concerts I have been to. Oh, Rod Stewart. An amazing peformer and one of
the great voices of our time. Gotta have him included in my wake. And
before I et, I sure like some of them oldtime yoddlers. don't hear much
any more. Roy Acuff was a good old timer. "Listen to the jingle, the
rumble and the roar; as she glides across the woodlands, through the hills
and by the shore.Hear that mighty rush of engine, hear them lonesome
hobo's call as they travel through the jungle on the Wabash Canon Ball,"
..or near that. Merlin Husky? He blew the Coliseum away when I was a
youngster. And that singing dude that did 'Fraulein? He recently died. I
got more kisses from cute cowgirls I was dancing with when that song
played then any other I can remember. We have seen the British
Invasion, the Australians (Little River Band too) and a host of Mexican
and Spanish singers. But we haven't seen AC/DC. Good gosh, what I wouldn't
give to see those guys before I check out. That would be heaven for
me. And when I do check out, there is a song by 'Bad pany' that I told
my wife to play a few times at my wake. It is "Shooting Star." Yeah, I
never made it big but the song let's us little folk dream. I play that
song at least twice a week. I also like Elton John's version of "Lucy In
The Sky With Diamonds." Oh my gosh, getting way too nostalgic. Better
check out for now.Whay a softie I am today. Have a Happy ABOUT THE

Toby Keith is now into kick boxing. He was talking about
doing a film with the ex, but I don't know if he's going to or
not. Willie and Tex are doing a karate movie.(sounds like a
joke...Willie is 73 and Tex is 53) Cliff...you should go do the film
with the ex and Willie! And collect my back alimony while you're there.
:) Tom, call G e Bochetto in Philadephia (tex's lawyer) and tell him to
put Cliff in the Willie/Tex movie. Bochetto makes Ron Weathers look like
Mother Teresa, just so you know the level you're dealing with--but
Bochetto scumbag manages to keep my ex out of jail, so he's pretty good at
what he does. I don't see why Cliff couldn't have a part in this film.
Just do it. I bet it could happen. Bochetto does
sports/entertainment law, and was also the boxing missioner for
Pennsylvania. He might be able to help with your book or get interest in a
film about Cliff. Again, I think the man is lower than pondscum, but he
is good at what he does. he does have big time connections and could make
it happen. Who knows? It would be most fitting if I played a role in
making this happen by having you go through the a**hole I am battling

We Want A Hit |
Message
 |
This tale is about baseball. I couldn't help but tell you
about it even though I usually stick to the martial arts and boxing. A
few years back, we took my wife's Mother to her first baseball game
ever. She had not even seen one on television. Anyway, we got to the park,
seated ourselves and watched the visiting team go up 2-1 on our Diablos in
the top of the ninth. In the bottom of the ninth, their closer walked our
first batter but struck out the next two. The next batter lined a deep
single and we had runners on first and third with two outs. The club
announcer started the chant."We want a hit! We want a hit! We want a hit!
Everyone in the stands took up the call and it was really loud. Lety and I
stookd up and chimed in. Her Mother looked at us curiously and then stood
up and decided to get her two-cents worth in. She loudly yelled, "We want
a head! We want a head! We want a head!" I nearly choked from laughing and
Lety was at first somewhat shocked but bent an ear to see if that was what
her Mother was really saying. Yep, Hilda was really into some hugh notes
by then and Lety just completely cracked up. People around us turned and
stared and then laughed as well. Hahaha! One would have thought we were in
the Roman games. By the way, the last batter did hit a double off the
center field wall and the first base runner was waved home and barely beat
the throw and the El Paso Diablos won that game.Hilda looked at us when
the delirious fans finally settled down and said, "where is the
head?" Have a Happy

Hello Clif Davis. Yeah man, that was one of the greatest,
if not the greatest fight, in early kickboxing History. You can get the
full story by buying the book. You can go thru paypal ( see how to buy
book) or you can e-mail me direct. As you well know, world champion,
Tony Rosser, was always just as fit as Clif and that was as fit as one can
get. And he was faster with his hands and feet than Cliff. Clif had the
power advantage and that came into play big time. In the first fight,
Tony was a runner and fought in spurts. He did a lot of amateurish slap
punching like European Olympic fighters. Cliff landed the telling blows
and hunted Tony down all night long. In the 11th, we thought Clif knocked
him out. But tony was well-conditioned and the bell saved him after the
brutal knockdown he took...the 1st in his career. Still, we got the short
end of a split decision. that was cruel but you just go on, crap
happens. In the 1983 fight, Cliff taunted and teased Tony about his
rabbit nature prior to the fight. It sort of worked. Tony met Cliff heads
up and face-to-face for most of the 12 rounds. Though he was a superb
warrior, Cliff measured him many times during the fight, sending the
"Tiger" to the canvass four times. I still don't know hoe he got up from
those vicious knockdowns. They were devastating punches and kicks. Cliff
was just sensational but he did have to eat a lot of Rosser
combinations...to say the least. That Rosser dude came to fight...make no
mistake about it. But his conditioning and intestinal fortitude was as
good as it gets. Even Cliff was amazed at Tony's ability to recover so
quickly after appearing to be finished for good. Rosser not only looked
finished at times, he fought thru the damage and came back firing his guns
like he was in the first round. Cliff was for the first time I remember, a
little gassed after he nearly took Tony out in the 12th. It did look as if
the ref was going to stop the fight at one juncture, but no, he evidently
knew Tony could stat the course. When Cliff took his man down in the
12th, Clif and the crowd was aghast that Tony survived the onslaught.
Cliff had run his tank real low and Tony made it a fiighting finish.
Cliff won the cards easy but not completely the battle. He had to use
every ounce of strength and power to overcome such a rare adversary. I
haven't a clue as to how that man took those power punches that leveled
him to the hilt and shook off the hurt and came back firing with a
fury. Tony was pretty well damaged though. His right eye was a mess and
his body had been racked unmercifully. He gave a lot ot tit-for-tat but
couldn't do what the Magic Man did to him....down, down, down,
down. Clif's manager, Hilary Sandoval, labeled the fight as WW2. He
called the first one, WW1. If you ever see the films, you will know why he
called them wars. It was war and it was brutal...on both sides...just
moreso on Tony's side.

I received a call today from the great and fantastic
Hawaiian Flash, Gary Lee. Gary is one of the founders of
worldblackbelt.com and blackbelttv.com. He has a grand portfolio that
includes movies and directing. He is in the process of getting Cliff into
his 'Legends of Warriors' series in the streamlining websites. I will be
forwarding some pictures and hopefully, film. The only holdback on the
film is getting copyright release and that has turned into a real bugaboo.
Otherwise, you would see snippets of films right here. Perhaps in the not
too distant future. Other info to follow as this thing progresses.

Dave, Great post. I sent you a personal e-mail. Get back
to me and give Cliff a call. He is always thristing for friends and fans
to contact him. And since you are a fuzz in Texas, maybe you can find
Jaime Foxx when he visits Terrell and Houston and make him listen to the
Cliff 'Magic' Thomas story ..or get ticketed. Hahaha! And yes, I was on
the El Paso Police Department You came on a little after I finished
college. I also founded the El Paso Boxing and Martial Arts Hall of
Fames. I was the first President, 1993-1996. You may recall that Randy
Cobb groomed under me and we even roomed together for 6 months. Cliff
is driving an 18 wheeler and that is no place for a 7-time world champion.
Maybe you guys can swing some weight down your way and get him on with a
Sheriff's department. Leo Samaniego wanted him with the El Paso Sheriff's
Department but Cliff and his wife, Wanda, have a retarded child at home in
Ft. Worth and their support system is in place. If you can help, plese
do. If I didn't have such bad cancer and could tour with Cliff, we could
make money at all the dojo's across America. He puts on a great seminar
and I do some pretty hefty stuff myself for a 72 year old man. I wish I
was young enough to hustle a contract with a major sporting outfit and
Cliff and I could be sponsored for a tour. Shoot, even Macdonalds would
work. The few times we have had book sales and seminars together, we
average about 40 books at each dojo. Thats is damn good. But it takes a
huge leap of faith to try and do it on our own what with the health and
family issues. We need a top notch agent or just a lucky chance
meeting...like with Jaime Foxx. Or, getting on the Oprah show... a near
impossibility unless you are a con artist. Have A Happy
Tom..ps.

I was a Green Belt at Robert Nava's Kenpo Karate School on
Alameda Street in El Paso, Texas when Cliff Thomas began his training. I
believe it was about 1973. Cliff was a teenager and I remember him telling
me that his parents didn't know he was taking Karate and that they would
not let him due to his heart condition. Cliff was very faithful and worked
very hard during his training classes. He worked out in gray sweats and
did not own a dobak for several months. I believe he mowed lawns to make
the $25 a month to pay for his lessons. His Sifu, Robert Nava, was a 1st
degree Black Belt and took the school over from a Mr. Martinez shortly
after making Blackbelt. Robert Nava was extremely talented and had
beautiful technique. The school was pretty small. There was only 2 brown
belts, about 3 green belts, and the rest were lower belts. I sparred
several times with Cliff and bragged to others on how hard he hit. I was
very impressed with him and his abilities when he made orange belt. Cliff,
if you ever read this, can you remember that the very first technique you
learned for your orange belt was called "Kimona Grab". I bet you still
remember it. My favorite Kata was "Poison Hand". Anyhow, I just wanted to
jog your memory a bit. Also, Tom McKay...your name seems very familiar to
me. I used to be with El Paso PD and trained with Ty Hayashi and Greg
Allen before coming to Nava's School. Ordering the new book is a must for
me. I am now a cop in La Porte, Texas, off the east side of Houston. I
hope you all make it out here some day. Please let me know if you do. Tom,
you put a great website up for Cliff, and I really feel that great things
are ahead for him. |

Say folks, the 2nd edition is only a few weeks away. Don't
forget to get on our mini-tour list. The wondrous story of Cliff
Thomas' rise to fame is unequalled and maybe unparralled in sports
history. Do you know of any athlete in any sport who was born with a hole
in his heart the size of a silver dollar, operated on as a child and not
expected to live past age 14 and yet went on to win world championships?
Do you know of any athlete that had a crippling circumstance anywhere near
what Cliff Thomas had and went on to win world championships? Do you know
of a single instance where an athlete not only won one world championship,
as Max Schemeling, Buddy Baer, Joe Louis, Muhammed Ali and others have
done, but did it with a handicap as serious as Cliff Thomas'? Do you know
of one incident whereby the athlete knocked out his trainer in the ring
after the ref's instructions before knocking out his opponent? Do you know
of one athlete who won seven world championshsips in five weight divisions
with any little handicap, much less one like Magic Thomas? Do you know of
any athlete, having his training and management team killed in a plane
crash before a major fight on NBC abd ESPN, dedicating the fight to his
fallen comrades and then destroying by knockout the " King of the
Bloodsport" before millions of viewers and a full house of onsight fans?
Do you know of any athlete with a handicap even close to Cliff's,
including George Foreman, who came out of retirement in his middle forties
to win two world championships? Do you know of any athlete with whatsoever
of a handicap holding two world titles simultaneously? Do you know of
any athlete marked by over a 100 stitches across their chest and medically
not supposed to put any stress on their heart, or any similar
circumstances, who never dodged an opponent and even gave every top-ten
contender a shot at his title? Do you know of any movie or tv special,
documentary or other media venue that has featured a black athlete with a
handicap as serious as Cliff's, along with the heart-rendering suffering
he had to overcome when his team went down in a fiery crash over Tennessee
before his NBC fight with Paul Vizzio? Do you know that Cliff Thomas did
all of the above? Do you know if there is a hang-up with some producers
and or movie executives who realize this story should be on the big screen
but shy away because the fit for such themes is better suited to films
like 'Raging Bull,' 'Million Dolar Baby,' 'The Cinderella Man,' ' The
Champion,'or the fictitious Stallone epics that always feature a white
guy?
Do you support a film that depicts the greatest black
kickboxer of all time (and arguably the greatest kickboxer of all time),
who overcame the greatest adversity known in modern sports, to reach the
pinnacle of success despite the overwhelming odds? Do you know of any
production that has featured a black athlete starring in a 3-part series (
Or one for that matter) because of the breadth and length of a magnificent
and stunning career? If you do, then let us know. Let the hollywood
magnates know? Let Jaime Foxx know. He is a natural for Cliff from age 30
something to 45. It would be difficult in back door board mmetings of
major operatives to take on such a task regardless of the drama, emotion
and even racism involved in Cliff's near unbelievable story. But storybook
it is and better yet, it is true. Oprah Winfrey put a liar on her show
recently. He wrote a book about his drug abuse and run in with the law. He
reaped a neat fortune because of that exposure. How about some 14 million
in books sales? Do you know that Cliff Thomas, and his true story, has
never been presented on National TV, nor has he ever been a guest on major
tv talk shows? Do you know that Randall 'Tex' Cobb, boxer and movie
star, groomed under me? Did you know he had a way with the tongue and the
women to make a fortune without ever winning a title? Did you know that he
his mug was on every late night tv show, other tv shows and in demand for
all kind of movies? More power to him, but how about Cliff 'Magic' Thomas?
Do you know and do you realize that this great icon of the kickboxing
world, listed by Arthur Ashe as one of the greatest black athletes of all
time, is still active but ignored by major media and his story at this
writing can only be found in the new release of the book, "Magic! Magic!
Magic!? How about you fans getting on the bandwagon, and if you have
any resources with the moguls, do your part to get this story where it
belongs? Out there on the silver screen. And start ordering your books
now. And sign up for the tour.

Skip, Hopefully, Cliff is retired from fighting. Goodness,
he was a champion at 46. But! Yes, always a but. If he was to get a match
that would pay off his mortgage, then who knows. I'm hoping for an

How many of you knew that Cliff was born with a hole in
his heart the size of a silver dollar and after a heart operation and 152
stitches was not expected to live to age 13 or 14? He wasn't even allowed
to play football or basketball in high school. Cliff just decided that he
would stare destiny in the eye and go for his own fate. He signed up for
karate classes and a few years later he dethroned the mighty and
undefeated Gordon Franks as a 20-1 underdog for his first PKA World Title.
His courage and dedication made his handicap an asset. Blazing his way
to numerous world titles and giving every champion or opponent a shot at
him makes his status as an Icon complete. Did you know that in some 80
fights, Cliff was never officially knocked down even though he went in
against the best of his time? And he jacked 56 of those opponents out by
KO or TKO. Did you know that Cliff had one of his knockdowns of world
champion Paul Vizzio run every week as a segment of NBC
Sportsworld? Did you know that the Magic Man did a one in a billion
thing by knocking out his coach, Ishmael Robles, after the ref's
instructions before knocking out challenger Joe Garduno in the 4th
round? Did you know that Cliff was the first 2-time world champ, 3-time
world champ and four-time world champ in the PKA? Did you know that
Cliff was the first PKA fighter to win two titles simultaneously? He did
it by kncoking out light welter champ Tommy Williams. Did you know that
Cliff's trainer, Black Belt Hall Of Famer, Demetrius Havanas, and his
manager, 18 year old genius , Tony Sandoval, were killed in a fiery plane
crash the night beofre the NBC telecast of the Vizzio fight in New Jersey?
Bill "Superfoot" Wallace saved the day by encouraging Cliff to go on with
the greatest fight of his career. Did you know that the amazing Paul
Vizzio had beat about 60 of the best Oriental fighters? Did you know that
after Muhammed Ali refused to fight Lee Man Chin of the 7-Animal Systems
that Vizzio knocked him out in the first round? Did you know that Cliff
and I wish you the best health and happiness imaginable for the holidays?

Cliff put on a great demo at the Eastside El Paso American
Karate School run by Hilary Sandoval Friday night nite and some judging
today. Wish he could stick around more. Perhaps his talent now needs to be
in the dojo's. He is a real motivator. |

Hi Tom...Thanks for the nice reply. If I ever get to El
Paso I will definitely look you two up. I ordered the book through the
mail. I sent the order out yesterday to your address. The 80's were a
great decade for kickboxing. The PKA / ESPN combination did alot to
promote the sport. It's a shame the PKA ended the way it did. Even though
I didn't always agree with everything Joe Corely did I think he was good
for the sport, and had it heading in the right direction.
I left
Bill Taylor a message telling him about the website and Cliff's new book.
I know he will want a copy. Cliff and Bill became good friends after the
fight in M'boro, and Bill went to Amsterdam to see Cliff fight. He had
Cliff come up and do a seminar when he opened his new school back in the
90's.
Thanks, |

Sam, what a special post. Cliff will be in El Paso this
Friday to test some Black Belts for promotion. And your right, they were
some bang-bang fights. Matter of fact, I tell in the book that Cliff was
never knocked down officially but Chesterfield caught him with a
devastating left hook and Cliff hit his knee on the canvass. Cliff popped
up but says now that his act was a mistake as he was somewhat woozy from
the hook. If he had it to do all over again he would have taken an eight
count. If you ever get our way or even close, give me a call. We would
cherish getting together with you. Did you order the book thru
Paypal? If not, call or write me direct and I will get you an
autographed copy off right away. It is really great to hear from you.
Cliff's number is 1 817 729 9047 and mine is 1 915 591 6089. My address is
10255 Saigon, El Paso, Texas, 79925. By the way Sam , if you have any
movie contacts let us know. We have the documentary planned for next year
but we haven't had the meeting yet to discuss a film; hopefully our
appointment in December will be fruitful. Wouldn't that be great ..and
different from all the karate movies? K1 is okay but doesn't have enough
athletes like the PKA. Grappling is just too much street dighting and so
boring once they are on the floor.Mui Thai has some mean ass fighters but
again, too much like street fighting. I'm thinking that some Congreesman
is going to eventually see these fights as Roman Game types and start
banning them. Sad that the PKA had problems. They were on the verge of
getting big money. I don't think I ever went to a PKA event that wasn't
sold out. Combining the art of boxing with the superb kickboxing
techniques developed made for the most exciting entertainment around. And
the no clinching rule was made to order. By the way, how is
Chesterfield doing? We would like to hear from his as well. He was a class
act and a tough hombre to say the least.

Hi...My name is Sam Youree, and I trained Thomas
Chesterfield for the 1987 fight in El Paso and the rematch in 1992 in
Murfreesboro. Bill Taylor and myself co-promoted the fight in
Murfreesboro. The first fight was a heck of a battle going back in forth.
However Cliff proved to be too strong, and eventually wore Thomas down
knocking him out in the 9th with a body shot. I would like to say that
Cliff was a class act, and is one of my all time favorite fighters. He
definitely deserves to have a movie made about his incredible life, and
career. I just put a check in the mail for a book. Thanks and Good
Luck. |

decades. Looking forward to buying the book and seeing the documentary.
How soon???? And what about Jaime Foxx? Does he really know Cliff

Hello Tom,
Why didn't the PKA do something about
the fighters that refused to give Cliff rematches when he never turned
down a ranked fighter or champion . He gave anybody that wanted a rematch
the option to do so. What a good man as well as a super kickboxer he
was. |

Good news again. A local developer is going to name a
street after 'Cliff 'Magic' Thomas' sometime next year. That is fantastic.
In El Paso, Cliff is King excepting that Don Haskins (Hall Of Fame
Basketball Member) gets a hundred times the publicity. Haskins has a
movie, "Glory Road" coming out very soon. It is about the first five all
black starters on an NCAA team that felled Kentucky back in 1966 as a
considerable underdog. That was a thrill and changed the way basketball
would progress right up until now. Haskins never made it back to the final
four but he did haver some impressive teams and standout players. I think
he has placed over 30 players in the pro's. Back to Cliff. He may soon
get some other options that are still being pursued. Hopefully, Jaime Foxx
will chime in here or somwhere and since he is somewhat of a Cliff
lookalike, take a little tiny bitsy peek at the Magic Man's
accomplishments. After being born with a hole in his heart the size of a
silver dollar and having 148 stitches etched across his chest after a
heart operation and still becoming a world champion, at least say,
"Hmmmmmm! What have we got here?" Forget 'Million Dollar Baby'( Not
really, it was a great flick) and look at this gutsy, heroic, champion
that turned the kickboxing world upside down by claiming seven world
titles in five weight divisions. And never knocked down, officially
anyway. I know and Cliff knows even better that Thomas Chesterfield did
get him to touch a knee with a booming left hook. Anyway, more kudos to
cliff and don't for one moment thank that the 'Magic' isn't still
working.

Busy Talk |

It's just some talk. However, Jaime does look like Cliff
in his thirties. What about a series like the Rocky movies? How about
'Magic I' wherein Cliff wins his first world championship at 20-1 odds
against Gordon Franks and then defends against Jackson and the stupefying
and magnificent battle against the Mighty Paul Vizzio after his main
trainer, Demetrius Havanas and manager, Tony Sandoval, were killed in a
plane crash the night before under a stormy sky in Tennessee? The fight
was first called off by Cliff but Bill "Superfoot" Wallace took him for a
stroll down the Boardwalk in New Jersey and convinced him that his friends
had trained him for the big NBC event and they would spiritually be in his
corner. Cliff knocked down Vizzio five times, broke ribs and also broke
his jaw. Vizzio was never down before he met Cliff. About 60 million
viewers saw that fight. The clip of vizzio getting his jaw broken was
shown as a clip for NBC Sportsworld for about ten years. A 'Magic II'
could find Cliff losing a title after the dread of the crash finally hit
home and then winning a second world championship and becoming the first
fighter to win two titles at the same time. A 'Magic III' would have an
older Cliff winning a fourth and fifth world titles and the main showdown
against Tony Rosser and Thomas Chesterfield. And like the fictional
rocky movies, Cliff could have a true 'Magic IV' as his career slips a
little away and then he makes a miraculous comeback to win a sixth and
seventh world title??? Wouldn't that be something?? Jaime Foxx could
cover the years from 26 thru 45 pretty easily. Someone younger would need
to play Cliff when he was 19-25.

Jerry, I sent you an e-mail. However, I can tell you that
Feb is the target date. We are also working for a 501 C3 heart center with
Cliff's name and some other deals. We have a good shot at an hour long
documentary that might happen early next year. Hilary Sandoval wrote
the intro for the revised edition and it will be fully edited and 6 X
9. Cliff deseres a movie about his miracle and magical career. No one
has a more dramatic true story about a young man born with a terrible
heart defect (hole the sixe of a silver dollar) and gone on the fame and
glory in the sports world as has Cliff. Yeah, seven world champiobships in
five weight divisions. And to have never officially been knocked down in
80 bouts is a stunning accomplishment considering the talent he went
against.

Cliff was definitely one of the greatest. What resilience
he had. And when one got in the late rounds with Cliff it was time to be
extraordinarily fit or he would rip your body up and tear off your head.
How many knockouts in 80 fights? Like 66 and those were all against
quality opponents or world champions. Indeed, his his history of opponents
reads like a 'Who's Who' of kickboxing. And amazingly he never went down?
What a fighter and yes, 'What Magic' he brought to the
game. |
